Jonathan Gibb: Vernon Brown + Group Exhibition 2006

The Old Kiwi Tavern, Auckland, NZ

Exhibition:

In 2006, I was one of twenty voluntary committee members involved in organising and establishing the inaugural Auckland Architecture Week on behalf of the New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA).

Alongside contributing to a programme of exhibitions, talks and events, I undertook the design and installation of an exhibition at the Old Kiwi Tavern in Britomart, bringing together two distinct components. The first explored the work and influence of Vernon Brown through his architecture, writings and art. The second presented the Group's first houses, highlighting an important part of New Zealand's architectural history.

The exhibition was ably sponsored and supported by ECC, whose contribution helped bring the presentation to fruition. It also received particular praise from New Zealand pop artist Billy Apple, who described it as the “most joyous” and “best” of the shows.
